“A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner: ‘Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time.’ When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, the one I feed the most.’”
~ George Bernard Shaw
My approach to therapy is customised to suit my clients’ particular needs and is beneficial in overcoming various situations, including:
Anxiety
Many people will recognize anxiety as the feeling of distress, unease, or dread. It can manifest itself with no apparent purpose.
It is defined by persistent, excessive worries that don’t go away even in the absence of a stressor.
Anxiety disorders includes different conditions like: General Anxiety, Specific Phobias, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Post Traumatic Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
The distress they cause can keep you from carrying on with your life normally, worry and fear are constant and overwhelming, and can be disabling.
But with treatment, many people can manage those feelings and get back to a fulfilling life.
Couple therapy
Deciding to go to couple therapy can sometimes feel like a difficult decision.
It is often hard to know when and why exactly to consult.
Couple therapy can, among other things, help to overcome a specific problem, avoid a deterioration of the relationship, learn how to resolve conflicts or increase closeness and intimacy.
Couple therapy is beneficial for all types of couples, whether heterosexual or homosexual, mixed-race, married or unmarried.
Self-esteem
Do you believe that others are better than you? have an intense fear of failure? have trouble accepting positive feedback? put other people’s needs before your own ? have trouble saying “no”?
You may need to work on how you perceive yourself if you tend to experience these common problems caused by low self-esteem. Significant events in our lives commonly lead to negative beliefs about ourselves.Over time, negative thoughts can become so frequent we see them as fact. When left on a loop, this thought process can be very damaging. Regardless of the factors contributing to one’s low self-esteem, we can address the emotions underlying low self-esteem and develop a healthy relationship with oneself.
Stress management
If you feel tired, have difficulty falling asleep, have trouble concentrating, are nervous, irritable or have a sudden loss of appetite, you are probably under stress. On the other hand, excesses (work, food, alcohol, tobacco, etc.), a feeling of isolation and sudden unexplained depression or overreaction to unforeseen problems are also telltale signs.
With good stress management, however, it is possible to prevent certain minor disorders from becoming much more serious.
Weight loss
